Prohibited Items on Cruise Ships

The following items are not permitted onboard cruise ships. This list covers major cruise lines (Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Celebrity, etc.). Individual cruise lines may have different rules so be sure to check with your cruise line before sailing, and they are subject to change. Weapons and Dangerous Items

  • Firearms, ammunition, explosives
  • Replica or toy guns
  • Air guns, pellet guns, bows and arrows
  • Martial arts or self-defense gear (pepper spray, handcuffs, batons)
  • Sharp objects (large knives, scissors beyond permitted size)

Flammable and Hazardous Materials

  • Explosives, fireworks, flares
  • Flammable liquids, fuels, solvents
  • Candles, incense, or items with open flames
  • Disabling chemicals or dangerous substances

Household Appliances and Tools

  • Irons, steamers, hot plates, coffee makers
  • Toasters, kettles, and other heating devices
  • Power tools, large screwdrivers, hammers, saws
  • Electrical extension cords and multi-plug outlets (unless approved)

Alcohol, Drugs, and Restricted Substances

  • Illegal drugs and controlled substances (including marijuana and CBD products)
  • Alcoholic beverages beyond permitted limits (varies by cruise line)
  • Hookahs and related smoking devices

Communication and Electronic Devices

  • HAM radios, transmitting devices (including Starlink)
  • Baby monitors (restricted on some lines)
  • Drones (often prohibited or require special permission)
  • Surge protectors

Sporting Goods and Miscellaneous

  • Baseball bats, hockey sticks, cricket bats
  • Skateboards, hoverboards, rollerblades
  • Diving tanks (unless arranged through ship excursions)
  • Large musical instruments without prior approval
